Secure Infrastructure Buildout

Enterprise-grade Databricks infrastructure on Azure or AWS, aligned to your security and compliance requirements. Covers network isolation, private endpoints, and development, staging, and production workspaces, all defined as code with Terraform.
The Problem

Security configurations that "we'll fix later" don't get fixed. They get audited.

Most Databricks deployments happen under time pressure, and without deep platform experience, it's hard to set things up both quickly and correctly. So speed usually wins. Workspaces are provisioned through the console, network configuration is deferred, and security controls are added incrementally. The result is a setup that works, but that nobody is fully confident will pass a security review. And reworking the network design later means pausing production while workspaces are moved.
Open Endpoints
"We deployed quickly and said we'd lock it down later. Two years later, it's still open."
Databricks workspaces provisioned without network isolation leave endpoints reachable from the public internet. Security reviews often find them months or years later, once they've accumulated access patterns that are difficult to remove safely.
Console-Built Infrastructure
"Nobody knows exactly what's deployed. We can't reproduce it, and we can't roll it back."
Infrastructure built through the AWS or Azure console accumulates over time without a record of what exists or why. Configurations drift between workspaces, and reproducing the production setup for disaster recovery takes guesswork, not a deployment command.
Credentials Spanning Environments
"Dev and production use the same service principals. A breach in dev means exposure in production."
Without workspace separation enforced at the infrastructure level, access patterns bleed across workspaces. A compromised dev credential or an over-permissive service principal becomes a production security incident.
The Architecture

Isolated workspaces. Private endpoints.
Infrastructure as code from day one.

The secure infrastructure architecture Datapao implements keeps development, staging, and production workspaces separate, isolates network traffic from the public internet through private endpoints, and defines all infrastructure in Terraform, so every configuration is reproducible, auditable, and version-controlled.
Network isolation by design.

All workspace traffic routes through private endpoints, with no exposure to the public internet. VPC and VNet configuration, subnet design, and security groups are defined in Terraform and consistent across workspaces.

Three workspaces. Same modules.

Development, staging, and production are provisioned from the same Terraform modules, not separately maintained configurations that drift. Infrastructure changes are tested in development and staging before they reach production.

Auditable from day one.

Every infrastructure resource is defined in version-controlled Terraform code, so who changed what, when, and why is traceable through Git history. Compliance questions about infrastructure can be answered with a terraform plan and a diff.

What's Delivered

Five phases.
Infrastructure your team can deploy, audit, and extend.

Every Secure Infrastructure Buildout follows the same five steps. The Terraform modules and documentation are built for your team to use, not for Datapao to maintain on an ongoing basis.
01
Requirements Assessment

Security and compliance requirements defined across Azure or AWS, covering network topology, identity management, Databricks workspace configuration, and alignment with your compliance framework, whether ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, or internal requirements.

02
Infrastructure and Security Design

Development, staging, and production workspaces designed alongside the security architecture. Reviewed and approved before Terraform development begins, and kept as a permanent reference for your team.

03
Terraform Module Development

Reusable Terraform modules for your cloud and Databricks setup, documented inline and in a companion architecture guide. Built for your team to deploy and extend, not locked to Datapao tooling or proprietary abstractions.

04
Validation

Infrastructure deployed across all three workspaces, reviewed and signed off with your team before handover.

05
Handover and Enablement

Architecture reference, Terraform module guide, deployment runbook, and security control documentation, building on the knowledge transfer that happens throughout.

The Process

Infrastructure your team deploys from day two.

The engagement starts with your security and compliance requirements, not a pre-built template. The infrastructure design is approved before Terraform development begins. Validation runs against all three environments before handover.
step 00
Project Planning
Prerequisites: access credentials, cloud account configuration, compliance documentation, and team contacts. We confirm readiness before the engagement starts.
step 01
Assessment & Planning
Requirements gathering, project kickoff, and current state analysis. Security requirements, compliance framework, networking constraints, and existing Databricks configuration reviewed.
step 02
Infrastructure Design
Three-environment strategy, cloud infrastructure design, and security blueprint. VPC/VNet topology, private endpoints, security groups, IAM structure, and Unity Catalog integration. Reviewed and approved before Terraform development begins.
step 03
Terraform Development
Cloud infrastructure and Databricks Terraform modules built, documented, and tested. Dev environment provisioned and validated during this phase.
step 04
Deployment & Validation
Staging and production environments provisioned from the same modules. Infrastructure validated against security and compliance requirements across all three environments. Monitoring configuration deployed.
step 05
Documentation & Handover
Architecture documentation, Terraform module guide, deployment runbook, and security control documentation. Enablement session. Engagement closes when your team has deployed a change to the dev environment independently.

Good to Know

Common questions before getting in touch.

Training buyers have specific questions before they'll pick up the phone. Here are the most common ones — answered directly.

Can you deliver on-site or does it have to be virtual?

Both. Every programme can be delivered in-person at your location or virtually — globally. The format is agreed during the design phase and has no impact on content depth or lab access. Several tracks are delivered both ways on different engagements simultaneously.

Do participants receive a Databricks certification after the training?

Participants receive a Datapao certificate on completion of any programme. This is a Datapao-issued credential, not an official Databricks certification. However, all programmes aligned to the Databricks Academy official curriculum are designed to prepare participants for official Databricks certification exams, which participants can then sit independently. Many do.

Can you tailor the content to our specific tools, stack, or industry?

Yes — every engagement is private, so all content can be calibrated to your environment. For standard ILT tracks, this means adjusting examples, labs, and exercises to reflect your Databricks workspace and data architecture. For Custom Courseware engagements, it means building the entire programme from your specific requirements from the ground up.

Is training available for non-technical teams, not just engineers?

Yes. The Data & AI for Business Leaders track is designed specifically for executives and senior decision-makers with no data or engineering background. Complex Enablement Programs also routinely span both technical and non-technical audiences within a single programme, combining different content formats and depth levels across personas.

Not Ready for a Full Buildout?

Need to validate first or address a specific gap?

The Lakehouse Buildout is the full implementation. If you're still evaluating, the PoC is the right starting point. If you need infrastructure or CI/CD resolved before the full buildout, those are available as standalone engagements.
